Coffins & Courtship

March is Lust of the Irish month at Book Tease, and this week we’re closing out the series with a story that leans into dark humor, quiet loneliness, and the kind of love that shows up when you least expect it.

Book of the Week:

Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks

Book 1 in the A Love in Galway series

The Book

Morbidly Yours follows a reclusive undertaker and the bright, chaotic woman who turns his carefully controlled world upside down. Set against a backdrop of Irish charm, the story blends grief and humor in a way that feels both offbeat and deeply human. The male lead is demisexual and lives with a stutter, bringing a layer of representation that feels thoughtful and genuine, especially as his quiet, socially awkward nature becomes part of his charm rather than something to overcome.

What begins as an unlikely friendship slowly develops into something neither can ignore. Beneath the awkward moments and sharp wit, both characters are carrying their own forms of isolation, learning what it means to let someone in without losing themselves in the process. And while he may be reserved in most moments, the Irish speaking MMC has a way of making the spicy moments feel extra spicy. The result is a story filled with heart, humor, and a romance that feels as healing as it does unconventional.

If you love grumpy/sunshine dynamics, quirky characters, and romances that balance emotional depth with lighthearted charm, this is your week.

Ratings

Overall Rating: 4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The dynamic between the main characters is where this story shines. Their contrast — his reserved, socially awkward nature and her bright, open warmth — creates a connection that feels both surprising and undeniable. Their relationship evolves from companionship, trust, and emotional safety rather than dramatic tension.

While the first half didn’t fully hook me, the second half pulled everything together in a way that elevated the entire experience. And, honestly, once I locked in my casting for Callum, it shifted the way I experienced his character and made the emotional beats land even harder. By the end, the story felt warm, healing, and remarkably impactful.

Spice Level: 3 Flames 🔥🔥🔥

Callum may be reserved in most areas of his life, but that restraint does not carry over into intimate moments. There’s a confidence that emerges behind closed doors, and his use of Irish adds an extra layer of intensity that makes those scenes feel both personal and bold.

The contrast between his quiet, socially awkward nature and the way he has absolutely no hesitation getting a little dirty when it counts creates a dynamic that is shockingly effective. The result is a spice level that feels earned, character-driven, and just a little bit unhinged in the best way.
