Blooming Late

Still in our Love in Bloom era 💐
—and this one blooms a little differently.

Book of the Week:

Late Bloomer by Mazey Eddings

The Book

Late Bloomer gives us two characters who don’t quite fit the mold: neurodivergent, queer, and navigating life in ways that feel more real than what we typically see in romance.

Opal is chaotic, colorful, and constantly in motion, while Pepper is quieter, more grounded, and finds comfort in structure and routine. Their dynamic is soft but complex - less about instant chemistry and more about slowly learning how to meet each other where they are.

Set against the backdrop of a flower farm, there’s a gentle beauty to the world they’re building… even when everything else feels messy.

The growth in their story feels awkward, tear-filled, and imperfect in a way that makes it both meaningful and, at times, difficult to sit with.

Ratings

Overall Rating: 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐

I really appreciated what this book was trying to do.

The representation, honesty, and the way it handles neurodivergence and identity felt thoughtful and intentional. It’s the kind of story that will likely resonate deeply with some readers, especially those who see parts of themselves reflected in these characters.

For me, though, it leaned heavier than I expected. The emotional weight made it a harder read at times, and while I could recognize the beauty in the story, it didn’t fully land in a way that made me love it.

Still, there’s something beautiful here and I’m glad I read it.

Spice Level: 2 Flames 🔥🔥

The spice in this story is less about intensity and more about connection - soft, intentional, and grounded in the emotional journey of the characters. It never feels out of place, but it’s also not the primary focus.
