Studies in Dracology

Welcome to Bloodwing Academy — where the students are just as deadly as the curriculum.

Book of the Week:

On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn

Bloodwing Academy Book 1

Available on Kindle Unlimited

The Book

Medra wakes in a world she doesn't recognize, where vampires sit comfortably at the top of the food chain—and she has no idea how she got there. Thrust into Bloodwing Academy, she has to quickly learn the rules, politics, and dangers of her new reality while somehow staying alive long enough to actually pass her classes.

Enter Blake: a cold, powerful, arrogant VAMPIRE who is far too interested in proving that Medra belongs to him. She may be out of her element, but Medra is no damsel waiting to be rescued. She's a warrior with a vicious streak of her own, and watching these two clash is half the fun.

On Wings of Blood is the perfect collision of Dark Academia and Romantasy: deadly school politics, enemies-to-lovers tension, vampires, dragons, and enough danger to make every lesson feel like a survival test. Honestly, with vampires and dragons in the same book... what’s not to love?

Vibe Check: Vampires. Dragons. Violent chemistry.

Ratings

Overall Rating: 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

On Wings of Blood checks so many of my favorite Romantasy boxes: danger, tension, political intrigue, a fierce female lead, and a world that immediately makes me want to know more. Add in the Dark Academia atmosphere, vampires (yay, Buffy), and dragons, and honestly, this book was practically designed for me. It's exciting, addictive, and the kind of story that makes starting the next book feel less like a choice and more like a necessity.

On Wings of Blood graduates Summa Cum Laude, with highest honors—and has absolutely earned its place among my favorites in both Romantasy and Dark Academia.

Spice Level: 2 Flames 🔥🔥

This book is practically vibrating with sexual tension. Blake and Medra spend most of Book 1 fighting their attraction, fantasizing about each other, and getting just close enough to crossing the line without giving us the full payoff. There are a few heated moments, but this book is all about the anticipation: the tension, the buildup, and some seriously effective foreplay. The real payoff may be waiting for Book 2, but On Wings of Blood makes the wait incredibly fun.

Quote of the Week

Blake: It’s not protection, little dragon. It’s a claim. You’re mine. No one touches what belongs to me.

Fan Casting

Medra → Madelaine Petsch

All fire, fury, and absolutely no obedience.
